June 03-06
Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio
$9,300,000
Round 1, Round 2, Round 3

Patrick Cantlay holed a 12-foot putt on the first extra hole of the playoff to win the Memorial Tournament a second time, his fourth PGA victory, on Sunday.

The Memorial 2021 R4

Cantlay and Collin Morikawa started the day tied for the lead at 12-under following Jon Rahm's withdrawal due to Covid-19 protocols. Rahm held a six shot lead at the time after shooting a 65, tying the 54-hole Memorial record at 18-under 198.

"It was such a weird situation, so unfortunate," said Cantlay. "Everyone, me included, knows it would be totally different today if that hadn't happened. But there's nothing I could do about it. I tried as hard as I could to reset and refocus."

The Memorial 2021 R4

Cantlay started his round with bogeys on two of the first three holes. Morikawa likewise bogeyed two of the first four letting Scottie Scheffler and Branden Grace move into contention.

Morikawa edged ahead with birdies at the 11th and 15th but Cantlay's 23-foot birdie putt at the 17th after a rain delay placed him back in a tie. He had a chance to win with a 25-footer at the 18th but missed setting up the playoff.

The Memorial 2021 R4

“Obviously it sucks to lose a playoff. But today was a grind and that's all I could focus on. I couldn't really hit a green for my life,” said Morikawa.

“To get into a playoff to make the putts I needed to make, just to keep myself in it, I'm proud of myself. I didn't feel like I really ever played this game where I'm missing every green, chipping, making 10-footers. I like it the other way where I hit it a lot closer. But it's going to be something I'm going to learn from a lot and just look back and see how I can grow from this.”

Cantlay is the fourth player to have multiple wins this season, following Bryson DeChambeau, Stewart Cink and Jason Kokrak, having won the Zozo Championship @Sherwood last October.

The Memorial 2021 R4

Scheffler tied for the lead with a birdie at the 15th but missed a birdie putt on the final hole to closed with a 70. He finished third at 11-under, his sixth top-10 finish this season

“I felt like I played pretty good," said Scheffler. "I made a few silly mistakes here and there but overall I felt pretty good about how I played.”

“Gave myself a chance to win down the stretch, I just wasn't able to hit the ball close enough to the hole and then wasn't able to make the putts I needed to.”
