Collin Morikawa produced a brilliant bogey-free 66 to win The 2021 Open Championship at Royal St George's with a 15-under, 265 total.

Open Championship 2021 R4

"It's amazing. I tell everyone I'm not the biggest history guy but I want to add myself into history and I want to make memories for myself and to be holding the Claret Jug is one of the best memories I'm going to have in my lifetime.

"I've had belief in myself since day one that I turned professional that I can do it, not give myself time to prep but just really learn the ropes and be out here and make a statement for myself.

"When it comes to these tournaments I've never played, a golf course and style that I've never played, I do my work. Last week at the Scottish Open was a huge week of learning experience for me. I put it all together and thankfully it all paid off this week."

Open Championship 2021 R4

Morikawa is the first player in history to win two Majors on his first try following his win at the 2020 US PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park. He is also the first to win two in his first eight appearances since Bobby Jones in 1926.

He is the youngest player since Seve Ballesteros in 1979 to come from behind on the final day and win the Claret Jug. He has now won three times in fourteen starts on the European Tour and replaces Jon Rahm at the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings.

Open Championship 2021 R4

Morikawa started the final round one shot behind leader Louis Oosthuizen but birdied the final three holes of the front nine to make the turn in 32 and take the lead while Oosthuizen bogeyed the 4th and 6th.

He made just one more birdie at the 14th while Oosthuizen birdied the 11th and 14th but also bogeyed the 13th to close with a 71 and a share of third place at 11-under.

Jordan Spieth dropped two shots on the front nine with bogeys at the 4th and 6th but an eagle at the par-5 7th got him back on track to make the turn in 34 after a birdie at the 9th. He made three more birdies on the back nine to card a 66 and finished second at 13-under.

Rahm made two bogeys and an eagle at the 7th then produced four consecutive birdies from the 13th to close with a 66 and a tie for third alongside Spieth.

Open Championship 2021 R4

Matthias Schmid made history becoming the first German to win the Silver Medal for the leading amateur, finishing at 2-over 282.

"I just got told some of the names that has been on the list for a Silver Medal and I'm proud of myself I was able to join it this week," he said. "That was the goal coming in here.

"The likes of Justin Rose, McIlroy. It's something special to play well here as an amateur. I guess it doesn't happen too often. So I'm very, very happy that I could do it this week."
