Bubba Watson shot a 68 on Saturday to take a share of the lead at 10-under in the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands.

Watson, who won the event in 2010, 2015 and 2018, shot five birdies and three bogeys on the back nine.

“When you're playing in the afternoon you know the challenge ahead of you. You don't want to play safe. In my stage of my career if I have a chance to win I'm going to go for it. That's the key. I'm not going to worry about third or fourth place. I am going to try to go for it if I can.”

First round co-leader Kramer Hickok had made four birdies and held a two shot lead by the 16th but bogeys at the final two holes left him with a share of the lead once again.

“I thought I'd be a lot more nervous than I am,” said Hickok who has won once on the Korn Ferry Tour but has yet to win on the PGA. “I know those nerves are going to be there. It's just embracing those nerves, not trying to fight it.

“I've been in contention before. Obviously, this is a bigger stage. But it's just about going out there and playing golf, and I play my best when I'm relaxed.”

Cameron Smith (66), Russell Henley (68) and overnight leader Jason Day (70) are tied in second place at 9-under.

Day is still contending wih health issues after a back injury forced him to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament earlier in the year as well as suffering from allergies.

"I'm just stiff. I had allergies out there, too, so that wasn't good. I was on 14 and I needed some eye drops and Bubba [Watson] pulled them out of his pocket, so that was nice.

"I'm just going to see where I'm at. Obviously in among the leaders. I'm not going to try and change the game plan too much. Like I said before, the stiffness is not stopping me from hitting good golf shots. I'm hitting a lot of good-quality golf shots.

"I just didn't capitalize on the opportunities that I had today, which I did the first two days. Hopefully, they start falling in tomorrow."

Defending champion Dustin Johnson signed for a 65 and is tied alongside seven other players in ninth place at 7-under.

“To birdie the last two yesterday to make the cut, which I definitely wanted to be here for the weekend, and obviously go out today and shoot a nice score, it was good. So I feel like the game is coming around.”
