Brandon Robinson Thompson made an eagle at the par-5 12th as well as seven birdies to close with a 9-under 62, matching the Regnum Carya course record. He takes a three-shot lead at 14-under heading into the final day at the Turkish Airlines Open.
“I’ve just got notified [of the course record] and I’m a bit bummed I didn’t break it,” said the Englishman.
“I’m super excited to have a nice round and the scary part was I probably could have had a few more but beggars can’t be choosers.
“It’s hard not to enjoy yourself this week – the facilities are so good. I’m here with my wife, its such an incredible place, if you’re not having a good time this week win, lose or draw, there’s something wrong.”
Spain’s Jorge Campillo made a bogey at the first hole before firing six birdies for a 66 and a share of second place at 11-under.
“Hopefully I can keep playing this solid and make a few putts,” said Campillo. “Hopefully we have a nice weather and it will be a nice day for you guys too.
“It’s so hard to win a golf tournament, you have to beat 155 guys, so it’s a loser’s game, really. I will give it a try, and hopefully I can win. Obviously, it’s not going to be easy.”
Four-time DP World Tour winner Haotong Li also made one bogey and carded a 68 to join Robinson Thompson while South African Robin Williams made two for a 67 and his share of second place.
“The birdie [at the final hole] kind of helped me to create a lot of momentum for tomorrow,” said Li. “The game was just as solid as yesterday as well.
“As soon as I saw a leaderboard on the 12th green, I thought, two-putt here and I am one shot behind and it’s okay. And then I had a three-putt there and bogeyed the next hole.”
England’s Matthew Jordan and Jordan Smith carded rounds of 65 and bogey-free 64 respectively for a share of fifth place at 10-under alongside Sweden’s Mikael Lindberg who shot a flawless 67 as well as overnight leader Martin Couvra of France who made just three birdies and four bogeys for a 72.
