American Harris English continues his impressive performance in the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational, backing up his opening 62 with a 65 and taking his two shot lead at 13-under into the final day at TPC Southwind.

English produced four birdies, an eagle at the par-5 3rd hole and a single bogey at the second.

"I've been playing really solid. When I miss the greens, I feel like my short game's been on point and I feel like I'm putting it well. Made some good saves for par, good birdie putts.

"Everything is clicking right now so I feel like my strategy has been working off the tee - a lot of right to left holes on the three wood, left to right holes I feel I can hit my fade with the driver and it's been working out."

He is followed by Australian Cameron smith and Mexican Abraham Ancer in second place at 11-under.

Both opened with rounds of 67 and challenged English on Friday with bogey-free 62s, including an eagle at the 3rd for Smith.

Smith needed only eighteen putts in his second round, tying the PGA Tour's record for fewest putts in a round. A missed birdie attempt at the 19th from 22 feet would have broken the record.

“The greens are so good around here,” he said, “if you get the ball started online and you've hit a good putt, most of the time they're going in. Yeah, really just a good day on the greens, I guess.

“I probably didn't drive it as good as I did yesterday but the approaches were really nice. Like I said, I felt I was hitting lots of nice shots that were just going off the green and made a couple of them and a couple of them missed. That's just how it went, but still a pretty cool record.”

Englishman Ian Poulter signed for a 66 in a round marred by a single bogey at the 9th to take a share of fourth place at 10-under alongside Americans Sam Burns (64) and Scottie Scheffler (65) followed by their compatriot Bryson DeChambeau (66) and South African Louis Oosthuizen (64) at 9-under.
