American Harris English carded a bogey free 65 to take the lead at 18-under into the final day at the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational.

“I love this golf course and I feel like my strategy through the years has really worked out and it's a lot, it's very similar to a course I grew up on in south Georgia, so very comfortable with it and looking forward to the challenge tomorrow.”

English started the day with a two shot advantage but was joined in the lead by compatriot Bryson DeChambeau after he signed for a 63 to reach 16-under.

DeChambeau is back this week after contracting Covid-19 and missing out on the Olympic Games in Tokyo. He's dropped a few pounds and lost some clubhead speed but is seemingly not suffering any lingering effects and is 12th in the field in driving accuracy.

“Not much, just a little lower ball speed. But I'll get that back real quickly. It's honestly kind of helped me this week hit it in the fairway, I don't know why.”

English produced birdies at the 16th and 17th to regain his lead and move one step closer to a wire-to-wire victory.

A victory on Sunday would be his first on the European Tour and he would become the fourth wire-to-wire winner this season following Bernd Wiesberger, Lucas Herbert and Nacho Elvira.

"There's a lot of good players behind me and my goal is just stick to my strategy and execute and whatever happens, happens," said English. "I can't control what everybody else is doing."

Cameron Smith of Australia carded a 65 to keep a share of second place alongside DeChambeau while Mexico's Abraham Ancer who was tied in second with him overnight signed for a 67 and slipped into fourth place at 14-under.

England's Ian Poulter closed with five birdies and two bogeys for a 67 and is tied in fifth place alongside American Scottie Scheffler at 13-under.
