Kevin Kisner emerged victorious on Sunday with a birdie on the second extra hole at the Wyndham Championship. This was the fourth win on the PGA Tour for the American and his first since the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in 2019.

Wyndham Championship 2021 R4

“Every time you win out here, it's hard, and you never know when it's going to happen again so you've got to cherish every time. This year's been somewhat of a struggle for me, I kind of started the year with a playoff loss and struggled through the spring and started to find some form here late in the summer and rounding into form going into the Playoffs.

“So to cap off the season with a win and head to the FedExCup Playoffs, moving up the list and having a chance to win the FedExCup championship is just an awesome week.”

Wyndham Championship 2021 R4

He moves to 29th in the FedExCup standings and will play in the first Playoff event at The Northern Trust for the eighth straight year.

“That's a huge goal of mine every year to start the year and that means you had a heck of a year and it sets up the following year every time you make it,” said Kisner. “You can't win it if you're not there, so let's go keep moving up.

The six-man playoff was only the third in PGA Tour history and the first since 2001 when Robert Allenby won the Nissan Open at Riviera Golf Club.

Wyndham Championship 2021 R4

Kisner started the day four shots behind the lead and fired six birdies and two bogeys for a 66 to reach 15-under, joining the playoff against compatriot Kevin Na (66), South Africa's Branden Grace (66), South Korea's Si Woo Kim (64), Australian Adam Scott (65) and Canadian Roger Sloan (66).

Kisner had previously lost all five of the playoffs he participated in.

“I was actually a little more amped up early on than coming down the stretch. That's what's crazy about humans and pressure, you never know when you're going to be feeling it or how you're going to react.

“I knew that I had a pretty good shot at making my putt. It was one of those putts you dream about having, three and a half, four feet, right edge, just get it going, so I wasn't too consumed with the pressure on my putt.

“My first playoff win. To be standing here is pretty sweet.”

Wyndham Championship 2021 R4

Overnight leader Russell Henley shot four birdies and five bogeys to close with a 71 at 14-under and finished tied for seventh place alongside Webb Simpson and Kevin Streelman who both shot 66s.

“I knew I had to shoot under par today, so just disappointed,” said Henley. “It stings pretty bad.”

Justin Rose, playing in Greensboro for the first time, had putts of 10, 14, 9 and 5 feet on the final four holes that could have secured him a place in the FedEx Cup Playoffs but he closed with a 67 to finish T10 at 13-under and will miss out for the first time in the FedExCup era.

“Obviously it was in my hands up 18,” said Rose. “I didn't do a very good job of that.”

Chesson Hadley made his first ever hole-in-one the par-3 16th and signed for a 62 to finish T15 at 12-under and make the Playoffs, securing full playing privileges for next season.

Wyndham Championship 2021 R4

“It's unbelievable how every year it comes down to one shot,” said Hadley. I did all I could do. That I can be comfortable with. I can sleep good tonight.”

“This game is so hard. People have no clue. I feel like I don't have a clue how hard the NBA is. But people have no idea how hard it is to do what we do. The travel, everything because you can be doing all the right things, and I guess that's life, you don't get rewarded for it.

“Golf is the perfect representation of life. It's been frustrating, and then you have days like today and it's amazing.”
