Shaun Norris fired seven birdies and one bogey before closing with an eagle at the par-5 9th for an 8-under 64 and a one-shot lead at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship.

“I have been battling to try and find a three-wood for the last year or two, and I think we figured it out this week and trusted one, got a good number out of it and it just worked it perfectly,” he said of his eagle.

The South African is in search of his third DP World Tour title and finished top-5 at the Volvo China Open two weeks ago and top-10 on the Japan Golf Tour (8 wins) last week.

“It was solid,” said Norris. “I hit the ball nicely all day, gave myself chances, so very happy with where the game is at.

“I played nicely last week in Japan, had to pop over there to get everything sorted with visas and residency, but the game is solid. I can’t complain this week, very happy where everything is.”

Scots David Law and Ewen Ferguson are tied in second place at 7-under alongside France’s Alexander Levy.

Law stayed bogey-free while Ferguson made one bogey and eagled the 9th. Levy eagled the par-4 5th and also remained bogey-free.

Levy has won five times on the DP World Tour in the past but is trying to regain his card this season.
