Haeran Ryu defeated Brooke Henderson with a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the 2026 Amundi Evian Championship and claim her second consecutive major title.
The South Korean and Henderson completed 72 holes at Evian Resort Golf Club on 19-under-par totals of 265. Returning to the par-five 18th for the playoff, Ryu found the fairway and reached the green in two before converting a four-foot birdie putt.
Henderson pulled her drive left and was forced to lay up on her next shot. The Canadian made par, leaving Ryu to add the Evian title to the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship she won two weeks earlier.
“This is just a dream right now because before the three weeks I don’t have a Major championship, but now two in a row,” Ryu said. “I’m so happy and I can’t believe it right now.”
Ryu Recovers After Henderson’s Charge
Ryu began Sunday with a three-shot lead after producing an 11-under 60 in the third round, the lowest in major-championship history. It also gave her a 54-hole total of 194.
Her final round was far less productive. Ryu bogeyed the eighth and remained without a birdie until the 18th, where she converted the putt she needed to reach 19-under and force extra holes. She signed for an even-par 71.
Henderson reached the playoff with a second consecutive 64. The 2022 Evian champion eagled the seventh, made an ace at the 169-yard eighth and birdied the 15th and 16th. Although she bogeyed the 17th, she reached the playoff when her eagle putt on the final green brought her alongside Ryu.
Ryu returned to the same hole after her regulation birdie.
“We went to the playoff and then I was just doing same as just normal shot, normal 18 with my play because I got a birdie,” she said. “I have great memory on hole 18 this week, so that’s why I have a little more confidence at the playoff.”
A Junior Champion Returns to Evian
Ryu’s relationship with the course began well before her major victory. She won the Amundi Evian Juniors Cup there in 2015, representing Team Korea as a 14-year-old.
“I have such good memories from when I was 14 years old, I got a win with my friends and Team Korea,” Ryu said. “I always hope to get a Major win at the Evian Championship because I have a good memory and this course is so beautiful.”
Henderson, who finished third at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, took encouragement from another strong major performance.
“I played awesome today, which is really exciting,” Henderson said. “To finish second in a Major and third a couple of weeks ago, my game is in a really good spot.”
Japan’s Aki Iwai finished alone in third at 18-under after a final-round 69. Miyu Yamashita shared fourth with Mao Saigo at 15-under, with Jin Hee Im posting the same total. Lydia Ko and Anna Nordqvist tied for seventh at 13-under.
Casandra Alexander’s tie for 10th extended her LET Order of Merit lead to 1,895.78 points. The tour now takes a one-week break before the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links from July 23 to 26.
