- Andrew Marshall shot an 8-under 64 to lead the European Legends Cup.
- Bradley Dredge holds second place after a bogey-free 65 at Fontanals Golf.
- Simon Griffiths and Philip Golding share third on 5-under.
Andrew Marshall combined an eagle with nine birdies to take a one-shot lead after the opening round of the European Legends Cup by SR Nexus at Fontanals Golf.
The Englishman offset three bogeys during an 8-under 64 in La Cerdanya. Bradley Dredge is his nearest challenger following a bogey-free 65, with Simon Griffiths and Philip Golding two shots further back.
The tournament is the third edition of the European Legends Cup and begins the second half of the Staysure Legends Tour season.
Marshall finishes with consecutive birdies
Marshall made an immediate move with an eagle at the par-5 2nd, then collected four more birdies before the turn. Bogeys at the 3rd and 8th prevented him from pulling clear during the opening nine.
Another dropped shot followed at the 14th, but Marshall recovered with birdies on his final two holes. He converted from around 30 feet at the 17th before striking his approach close at the last.
“I holed about a 30-footer on 17 and then hit it stiff on the last,” Marshall said. “All of a sudden I’ve gone from going along nicely to possibly snatching a lead.”
Marshall was playing alongside Stephen Gallacher and Thomas Gögele, both of whom opened with 69s. He said keeping the ball in play and making more putts allowed him to overcome their advantage from the tee.
“The guys shot 69 and I got 64 somehow, and that’s only because I holed a few more putts than them,” he said.

Dredge stays one behind
Dredge reached the turn in 32 after making four birdies on the front nine. Three more followed after the turn, including one at the 18th, as the Welshman completed the only bogey-free round among the leading four players.
The two-time DP World Tour winner has owned a home in Spain for 20 years and believes that experience has improved his reading of grainy putting surfaces.
“On the front nine I was hitting the ball well but missed a lot of chances from around 15 feet,” Dredge said. “On the back nine I didn’t play quite as well, but I putted better.”
Dredge is pursuing his second Staysure Legends Tour victory, having won the Legends Tour Trophy in 2023. He also opened with a 68 at the NI Legends earlier this month.
Griffiths and Golding lead chasing group
Griffiths surged into a share of third place with an inward 31 containing six birdies and one bogey. The Englishman is seeking another title after his final-round victory at Costa Navarino in June.
Golding also signed for 67 after making five birdies across his closing nine holes. Thomas Levet shared fifth place with Jean Hugo on 4-under, while Van Phillips also returned a 68. Levet described the Fontanals greens as the best the Tour has played this season.
Gallacher is part of a large group on 3-under and has an opportunity to take over the 2026 Order of Merit lead. Current leader Mikael Lundberg, who won his first Legends Tour title at Chart Hills in August, is absent this week.
Five shots separate Marshall from the group on 3-under entering Friday’s second round.
