Thomas Detry and Matt Fitzpatrick edged ahead on Saturday to take a one shot lead into the final day at the abrdn Scottish Open.

Scottish Open 2021 R3

Detry started the day in a tie for lead alongside World number 1 Jon Rahm and Jack Senior before an eagle at the par-4 4th, two birdies and a single bogey at the par-4 8th let to a 68 let him retain a share of the lead.

Detry has yet to win on the European Tour, he has finished second four times and third five times.

Fitzpatrick has six European titles under his belt including his maiden Rolex Series win at the 2020 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai last December.

He produced six birdies and two bogeys to sign for a 67 on moving day for his share of the lead.

Overnight co-leader Jon Rahm is in third place at 13-under after carding a 69 comprised of five birdies and three bogeys.

"Just a couple errors, whether it's me mentally or technically, whatever it is," said Rahm. "It is unfortunate that it's been happening quite a bit the last few days. I'm usually very, very solid inside five feet. It's definitely unusual.

"But I'm making it up with a couple other longer putts and hitting really, really good shots out there. Hopefully I can keep that going tomorrow and clean up the little mistakes and come out on top."

Scottish Open 2021 R3

Last week's Dubai Duty Free Irish Open winner, Lucas Herbert briefly took the clubhouse lead at 12-under after an eagle at the par-5 16th, six birdies and a single bogey at the par-4 2nd but currently sits in fourth place.

Lee Westwood made two double bogeys, at the par-4 11th and 13th, to sign for a 71. He is tied for eighth at 10-under alongside eight other players including David Law (69), Richie Ramsay (65), Padraig Harrington (68) and Alexander Björk (63) who recorded the joint lowest round of the week following Scottie Scheffler in the second round.
