Min Woo Lee has won his maiden Rolex Series title in a play-off, beating Thomas Detry and Matt Fitzpatrick at the abrdn Scottish Open.

Scottish Open 2021 R4

He started the day three shots behind leaders Detry and Fitzpatrick but picked up six shots with consecutive birdies from the 3rd.

Detry regained the lead at the 13th just in time for play to be called mid-swing for a par putt at the 14th on account of thunder and lighting.

Scottish Open 2021 R4

Lee edged ahead with a birdie at the 16th and closed with a 64 to reach 18-under but his opponents kept up and closed with 67s to force a play-off. Lee birdied the first extra hole at the par-4 18th while Detry and Fitzpatrick parred.

Lee's victory earned him one of the three places available at next week's Open Championship at Royal St George's Golf Club where he will be joined by Detry and first-round leader Jack Senior.

Scottish Open 2021 R4

"It's an awesome day, I was pretty proud of how I played. Six birdies in a row, that was sweet. It kind of happened really quick," said Lee.

"I could have holed a few more putts, in regulation I missed it by a roll, that was painful but we regrouped and the tournament starts in the play-off, pretty much.

"It's just crazy, I've kind of dreamt of it last night and people back home staying up late to watch me, sending messages. This one is for you too.

"I've been playing really good in recent weeks and just trending, a few mistakes over the whole tournament and wasn't able to capitalise so it's awesome to do it here. I'll enjoy this one."

Senior, who held the lead after the lead in the first round and shared it after the second, closed with a 66 to finish in a tie for 10th alongside Xander Schauffele.

Scottish Open 2021 R4

Ian Poulter matched the low round of the week with a 63 to set the clubhouse target at 17-under and finished tied for fourth at 17-under alongside Lucas Herbert (66) and Ryan Palmer (64).

World number 1 Jon Rahm closed with a 68 to finish seventh at 16-under.
