Jon Rahm, Thomas Detry and Jack Senior are heading into the weekend tied for the lead at the abrdn Scottish Open.

Scottish Open 2021 R2

Senior started the day with a one shot lead but was caught by World number 1 Rahm who set the target at 11-under after a second round 65.

Rahm was joined in the lead by Detry who matched his 65 but Senior held on and signed for a 67 to join them in the lead.

Scottish Open 2021 R2

"You can't pretend to play 72 holes perfect," said Rahm. "I would have taken six under before the day started."

"We had beautiful conditions, we played the front nine without any wind. The second nine, me, Rory (McIlroy) and JT (Justin Thomas) struggled a little bit more, the wind picked up and that's when it becomes a links golf course.

"Then again, links golf course, no wind, you can make some birdies."

Scottish Open 2021 R2

Senior, currently number 335 in the World Ranking and playing in his second Rolex Series event, has had only two top-10s in sixty one starts on the European Tour.

"It's just great to be back playing well. Great to be back holing some putts and it's great to be back near the top of the leaderboard," said Senior.

"I'm obviously excited. I don't really show much emotion when I'm on the course or anything like that.

"As long as you can stay level and stay committed to what you're going to do and see where it ends up at the end of the week, I'm not taking anything for granted."

Scottish Open 2021 R2

Lee Westwood finished eagle-birdie-birdie to sign for a 67 and a tie for fourth place at 10-under alongside George Coetzee (66) and Matt Fitzpatrick (66).

"I felt like I was playing well out there and then stood on the 16th tee, I'm even par for the round and looking at the leaderboard and it doesn't seem that good," said Westwood.

"I felt like I was moving backwards so I'm pleased I was patient for most of the day and patience was rewarded.

"I hit a big one down 16 and a nice four iron from 246 yards or something like that and landed in the right place and rolled out stone dead.

"It's always nice to walk up there for a tap in for eagle and it gave me a bit of momentum for the last two holes and hit some nice shots. That will make dinner taste sweet tonight!"

Rory McIlroy followed his opening 70 with a 71 and missed the cut by one shot.
