- Austin Smotherman beat Seamus Power on the third playoff hole to win the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
- The tournament was reduced to 54 holes after high winds wiped out Sunday’s final round.
- Smotherman has now won in consecutive PGA Tour starts, following his victory at the Bank of Utah Championship.
Austin Smotherman needed three visits to the par-3 16th at Port Royal on Monday morning to win the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. He and Seamus Power parred the hole on each of their first two trips. On the third, Smotherman made another par, and Power could not match it.
The two had finished three rounds level at 16-under 197, and that is where the tournament stopped. Gusts topped 40 mph on Sunday, none of the 72 players who made the cut could start the final round, and with Monday’s forecast just as bad, officials declared it a 54-hole event and sent the co-leaders out for sudden death.
The 16th had cost Smotherman a shot on Saturday. In the third round, he hit a chip 7-iron at a front pin and finished in a back bunker some 35 yards long. He blasted out to the fairway short of the green and got up and down for bogey. On Monday he made three pars there.

Back-to-Back for Smotherman
This was Smotherman’s first start since he won his first PGA Tour title at the Bank of Utah Championship in his 100th start. His second came in his 101st, at the age of 32 years, five months and seven days. He is the first player to win in consecutive starts on Tour since Matt Fitzpatrick took the RBC Heritage and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
He is also the season’s eighth multiple winner. Every FedExCup Fall winner this season has now won more than once on Tour, with Jacob Bridgeman and Michael Brennan alongside Smotherman.
Smotherman is the 17th third-round leader or co-leader to convert this season, and the last three events have all gone that way: Brennan at the Baycurrent Classic, then Smotherman in Utah and Bermuda. He is now 2-for-3 with a 54-hole lead. The exception was the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, where he tied second.
The win is worth 500 points and lifts him from No. 52 to No. 51 in the FedExCup Fall standings. Players who finish between Nos. 51 and 60 earn places in the 2027 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational. He also secures membership of the Championship Series, the top tier of the Tour’s new two-tier structure, through 2029, and a place in next year’s US Open.
Smotherman has made 15 cuts in 24 starts, and two of his four top-10 finishes are wins. The other two are the T2 in Florida and a T8 at The American Express. He earned his 2026 card by finishing No. 3 on the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour Points List, after winning twice that season.
Power Gets Back Inside the Top 100
Power, the 2022 champion, was trying to become the first multiple winner in Bermuda and take a third PGA Tour title at 39. He came away with the first runner-up finish of his 237 Tour starts and his first playoff defeat. His only previous playoff had ended in victory over J.T. Poston on the sixth extra hole at the 2021 ISCO Championship.
Power arrived at No. 103 in the FedExCup Fall standings, outside the top 100 who keep full status for 2027, and leaves at No. 68. He finished last season at No. 114. That still got him into most events, though not the Signature Events.
“It was the unknowns,” Power said on Friday. “Not knowing where I was going to get in and when I was going to get in was the tough part. Trying to get back into that top 100, get yourself back to full status, I just feel like you’re in a better more comfortable spot starting off in January. So like that’s going to be the big goal.”
The Irishman now has four top-10 finishes this season and 25 in his career. He and Smotherman are both entered in the VidantaWorld Mexico Open in Vallarta next week.
A Rare Finish
This was the Tour’s first Monday finish since the Travelers Championship, where Viktor Hovland beat Scottie Scheffler on the first extra hole. It was the first 54-hole event since Wyndham Clark won the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. And it was the first 54-hole event decided by a playoff since Brian Stuard won the 2016 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
It was the eighth playoff of the season and the first since Steven Fisk beat Taylor Pendrith at the ISCO Championship. It was also only the second in Bermuda’s history. In 2020, Brian Gay beat Clark on the first extra hole, the 18th.
Smotherman is the fourth 54-hole leader or co-leader to win at Port Royal and the third in successive years, after Rafael Campos in 2024 and Adam Schenk in 2025. Power was the first, in 2022.
