Ruoning Yin chipped in for birdie from just off the 18th green to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the FM Championship at TPC Boston.

The Chinese player completed a 4-under 68 on Saturday to reach 12-under 204. South Korea’s Sei Young Kim and Hyo Joo Kim were tied for second place at 11-under, leaving three LPGA Tour winners at the top of the leaderboard.

Yin’s finish followed another important birdie at the par-3 16th, where she converted a 20-foot putt. Her closing chip then gave her the outright lead after 54 holes.

“I think my swing is in a good spot, my putting and every part of my game I think are pretty good,” Yin said. “I’m just going to play my game. I’m not going to play safe when it’s time to go aggressive.”

Yin targets a sixth LPGA Tour title

Yin has won five times on the LPGA Tour, collecting two titles in 2023 before adding three more in 2024. She will begin Sunday facing two players who have also won on the tour.

“I knew today was going to be tough and tomorrow is going to be tougher, so just be patient and play my game,” Yin said.

Sei Young Kim recovered from a second-round 74 by shooting 67, the best score among the leading group on Saturday. The first-round leader had opened the tournament with a 64 before losing ground during the second round.

“A little more emotional today,” Sei Young Kim said. “It kind of helps today, like positive way.”

Hyo Joo Kim remained one stroke back after a third-round 70. She has already won twice this season, taking the Founders Cup and Ford Championship.

“I just want to make sure I’m doing a good job tomorrow,” Hyo Joo Kim said.

Yamashita slips six shots behind

Somi Lee shot 70 and Jenny Bae posted a 72 to share fourth place at 8-under, four strokes behind Yin.

Miyu Yamashita, who began the day tied for the lead, fell six shots off the pace after a 75. Her difficult round came less than a week after she matched the LPGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record during a nine-stroke victory in Canada.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda recorded her third consecutive 72 and was tied for 49th. The FM Championship is her final tournament before the Solheim Cup matches in the Netherlands.

European captain Anna Nordqvist shot 73 to sit at 1 over in the final LPGA Tour event of her career.
