Children's Open 2021 R3
October 07-10
TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas, Nevada
$7,000,000
Round 1, Round 2, Round 4

Estimated reading time: 9 minutes

In spite of the wind causing problems early in the round, Adam Schenk closed with birdies on three of his last four holes for a 66 to take the lead of the Shriners Children's Open at 18-under.

Schenk leads after 54-holes for the second time following the Barracuda Championship in August where they played in a modified Stableford format and he finished fourth.

Children's Open 2021 R3

"Definitely disappointing," he said of his early round, "but there's so many more birdie holes out there and the first five or six holes might be the probably the hardest holes on the golf course, minus the finish. But, yeah, exactly, I knew it was going to be a lot of birdies made, there was a lot of scores shot, I saw Lanto [Griffin] shot a nice low score this morning, I talked to him, and, yeah, I just knew I needed to come back and make some birdies, hopefully on the end of the front nine and then on the back nine during that stretch where it's pretty gettable.

"Yeah, great finish," he said of his birdie at the 18th. "I mean, the wind on 18 being straight in makes the hole a lot easier for me personally. Yesterday it was in off the left, so I kind of faded one down the right and the wind took it. Being straight in you can't get to those bunkers, so it made the tee shot easier and fortunately I had a good number in, a nice gap wedge I could throw behind the hole and spin back. So fortunate today, seemed like I had a lot of good clubs, made all the putts I was supposed to make and a couple that I really wasn't planning on making, so today couldn't have been a whole lot better for me.

Behind him at 17-under, last year's runner-up Matthew Wolff recorded his career-best round with a bogey-free 65, including an eagle at the par-5 16th.

"I think starting the round it was honestly really windy," said Wolff. "The first three holes were pretty brutal. Then it started to lay down. But I would say it was more gusty today. Yesterday was a little breezy but today was more gusty, it was like sometimes it would lay down but other times it would pick up heavily. So feel like it was difficult to judge the wind out there, especially on that front nine, but like I said, the back nine there's two par-5s and a drivable par-4 and you also get to catch those, I mean not into the wind but kind of downwind. So makes those play a little easier and I knew that makings the turn at 1-under I definitely would be in a good spot to make a run on the back nine which I did."

Children's Open 2021 R3

"The pin placements were pretty difficult today. Even the ones that didn't seem too difficult like I would say 6, that was a pretty gettable pin because you had a bunch of room long, but the way the wind was and like I said it was pretty much just off the right, so if you caught it a little down it was going to go far and then if you caught it short it was going to roll all the way back to you. So there was a few pins out there that were maybe a little questionable with the breezy conditions, but I felt like for the most part I played really solid and took advantage of the holes that I could attack and the ones that I didn't I played smart and made sure to just make my par."

A group of six players are tied in third place at 16-under including overnight co-leader Chad Ramey (69) and last week's winner Sam Burns who signed for a 68.

Sungjae Im, who shared the lead with Ramey, signed for a 70 and lies in sixth place at 15-under.
