Xander Schauffele shot a 67 on Saturday to reach 17-under and maintain a narrow lead in the Travelers Championship.

Travelers Championship 2022 R3

He started the day five shots clear of fellow American Patrick Cantlay. in a share of second place, but Cantlay's bogey-free 63 and his own bogey at the 13th narrowed the gap.

"I thought I was pretty steady for the most part," said Schauffele. "I would love to have that tee ball back on 13. For the most part I knew it wasn't going to be easy to protect a lead, especially when it's five shots and it's easy to get comfortable. It's easy to hit it to 30 feet out here with a wedge. But that's just not going to be enough to win. So I got to make a few more birdies tomorrow.

"I'm going to go hit some balls right now. I pulled a 9-iron on 9. I pulled a 7-iron on 10. 11 was a gap wedge. 12 was a draw 3-wood. And then up on the plate there with a fade on the tee ball there. So just a couple bad swings on cuts and kind of over correcting and a really bad swing there."

Scotland's Martin Laird closed with a 66 to tie for fifth at 12-under alongside South Korean K.H. Lee (66).
