Mikael Lindberg fired four consecutive birdies from the 4th as well as two bogeys to make the turn in 34 then parred the rest of the way for a 2-under 70 and a share of the Turkish Airlines Open lead at 7-under.

“It was a weird day. It’s a very, very tricky course,” said the Swede. “I felt like I played pretty good the front nine. Unfortunately, I had a couple of three-putts to start the day, but I managed to hole a few there in the middle of the front, so it was good.

“I played well last week [at the Volvo China Open], so it’s good to see that I’m still playing good golf, so hopefully we can play some good golf tomorrow.”

23-year-old rookie Daniel Rodrigues of Portugal made six birdies and two bogeys for a 68 to set the early clubhouse lead at 7-under before a two-hour stoppage due to lightning in the area.

“We didn’t know if we were going to get rain or thunder or whatever, so the start of the day was not like the other two days that [have been] nice, but just had to do what I kept doing the last couple of days and it was good. It was really good,” said Rodrigues.

As well as looking for his first DP World Tour title, Rodrigues is also aiming to get a US PGA Championship invite available to the top three finishers on the Asian Swing at the conclusion of the Turkish Airlines Open.

“I have it in the back of my mind but I don’t like to think about it too much,” he added. “I know what’s at stake and it’s always nice to play for that stuff but at the end of the day, you’ve got to hit shots for 18 holes and it’s a long time and you’ve just got to do your best. That’s it.”

Overnight leader Gregorio de Leo of Italy made a near 100-foot eagle putt at the at the par-5 14th as well as three bogeys for a 73 and moved down into a share of the six-way tie for third place at 6-under.
