Michael Brennan Shares Lead as Adam Scott Lurks One Back

Brennan, Jacob Bridgeman and rookie Zach Bauchou sit at 13-under. Scott’s two-eagles puts the Australian, winless on Tour since 2020, one back alongside Justin Thomas.

  • Jacob Bridgeman, Michael Brennan and Zach Bauchou share the Baycurrent Classic.
  • Adam Scott shot a 65 with two eagles to sit one stroke back, tied fourth with Justin Thomas.
  • Eight players are within one stroke of the lead at Yokohama Country Club.

Michael Brennan fired a 6-under 65 on Saturday to grab a share of the Baycurrent Classic lead. Behind him lurks a 14-time PGA Tour winner who has not lifted a trophy in six years.

Brennan finished at 13-under 200 at Yokohama Country Club. He shares top spot with first-round leader Jacob Bridgeman, who added a 69, and Tour rookie Zach Bauchou, who shot 67. Adam Scott’s 65 and Justin Thomas’s 67 left both men tied fourth, a stroke back.

Eight players are within one of the lead and 16 are within five. The biggest come-from-behind win on Tour this season is five strokes, which has happened twice, so Sunday is wide open. It is also only the second time this season that three players have shared the 54-hole lead, after the Genesis Scottish Open.

The PGA Tour’s lone stop in Asia this year has drawn the strongest field of the FedExCup Fall. It includes 13 of the 24 players who contested the Presidents Cup at Medinah a fortnight ago.

Scott’s eagles revive old ambitions

Scott’s last PGA Tour win came at the 2020 Genesis Invitational. On his fourth start at this event, he gave himself a genuine chance to end that wait.

His 65 was built around eagles at the par-5 6th and par-4 9th. It was only the 10th round with multiple eagles in his 1,604 career rounds on Tour.

“You got to be pleased with that and something like that tomorrow might be enough,” said Scott. “It’s not a bad spot to be a few back. Hopefully we’ll be in for a great day.”

The Australian has shown flashes this year. At Riviera in February he closed with a bogey-free 63, the same day Bridgeman claimed his first title.

Thomas is also chasing a breakthrough of sorts at this event. He was runner-up here in 2020 and 2024 without winning. Two second places is tied for his most at any event in his PGA Tour career, alongside the Tour Championship.

Brennan’s perfect record on the line

Brennan is making his tournament debut and leads the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee at 5.081.

At 24, he is seeking a third PGA Tour victory in only his 33rd start. His first two came at the 2025 Bank of Utah Championship and this year’s Wyndham Championship. Victory on Sunday would make him the seventh multiple winner on Tour this season.

His record from this position makes him the man to beat. This is his third 54-hole lead or co-lead, and he converted both of the previous two. He finished the season No. 46 in the FedExCup standings with three top-10 finishes.

“I’ve been playing good golf all week,” said Brennan. “I played good golf yesterday, I was 6-under through 17 and made a 6 on the last, which was a bummer. So it was great to save par today.

“Been hitting my irons really well. Had a couple 7-iron plus irons that I’ve hit pretty tight and made some birdies from that distance, which is always nice to do. I feel like you’re stealing one when you do that. Hit some good putts, rolling it really nicely, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Bauchou keeps the streak alive

Bauchou, pronounced BOH-shoo, holds a 54-hole lead or co-lead for the first time. His previous best position after three rounds was seventh at this year’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he went on to finish tied sixth. That is one of only two top-10s in his 30 Tour starts, along with a tie for ninth at the Corales Puntacana Championship.

His 67 was a 25th consecutive round of par or better, the best active streak on Tour. He also led after the first round of last week’s Bank of Utah Championship before fading to tied 13th.

The 30-year-old earned his card through a No. 11 finish on the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour points list. His only win in 58 starts on that tour came at the 2025 Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation.

A win would make him the 10th first-time winner on Tour this season. It would also follow Austin Smotherman’s maiden victory in Utah, giving the Tour first-time winners in consecutive weeks. No player has made the Baycurrent Classic his first PGA Tour title.

Bauchou entered the week No. 81 in the FedExCup Fall standings and is projected to climb to No. 52.

Bridgeman still at the top

Bridgeman has held at least a share of the lead after every round this week. He opened with a bogey-free 63 on Thursday and shared the halfway lead with Keith Mitchell on Friday.

The American won the Genesis Invitational and the Biltmore Championship Asheville this year. A victory in his 86th start would make him the fifth three-time winner of the season, joining Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Scottie Scheffler and Chris Gotterup. The last season with five or more three-time winners was 2022.

Because Asheville was his most recent Tour appearance, he is also bidding to become the first player since Fitzpatrick to win in back-to-back starts. Fitzpatrick did it at the RBC Heritage and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

His record on debut is another omen. Both of his wins came in his first appearance at the event. A win here would make him only the second player to win on his Baycurrent Classic debut, after Nico Echavarria in 2024.

On 54-hole leads, he is 1-for-2. He finished third at the 2025 Valspar Championship and won at Riviera, where he led or co-led after all four rounds. This is his first start since he clinched the winning point for the United States at Medinah.

Schauffele and Matsuyama off the pace

Defending champion Xander Schauffele is tied 12th at 9-under, four strokes back. The 10-time Tour winner is trying to become the first player to defend this title and the first to win it twice. His 26th round of par or better at the event, from 31 played, extended his tournament record.

Hideki Matsuyama gave the home crowd a lift with an outward 30. A back-nine 39 then undid much of the good work. The Ehime native and 2021 champion signed for a 69 and sits tied 29th at 5-under.
