Dane Joachim B. Hansen closed with a bogey free 68 on Sunday to reach 23-under and win his second European Tour title at the AVIV Dubai Championship.

He started the day tied in the lead with Francecsco Laporta of Italy and took the outright lead with a birdie on the first hole that he held on to until the end.

“I really struggled finding the middle of the club on the woods so I didn’t drive it well. The putter helped me today, I putted a lot better today than yesterday so that kept me in the game.

“It’s very nice going into next week. I’ve played very nice in the last few weeks and have been really close to playing really good, which I did this week. So I’m just going to take next week as a bonus week and try to enjoy it.”

Hansen’s victory, the fourth by a Danish player in the last ten events on Tour, comes just a few days short of the anniversary of his first win at the 2020 Joburg Open. He moves into the top-50 on the Race to Dubai Rankings and will take part in next week’s season ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

“It means a lot, especially with family here and friends this time, there was nothing in Joburg. When I saw Jeff Winther win in Mallorca I was very jealous because he had all the family and friends celebrating and I really wanted that. I’m really glad I get to experience that.”

Laporta was equally bogey-free but only made three birdies for a 69 and a share of second place at 22-under alongside Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger who produced a 65 on the final day.

Defending champion Antoine Rozner of France suffered a double bogey at the par-4 15th and closed with a 70 to finish T4 at 20-under alongside England’s Andy Sullivan (65), Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond (67) and Australia’s Min Woo Lee (68).
