Lexi Thompson shot a bogey-free 66 on Saturday to take a one shot lead at 7-under in the U.S. Women’s Open. It was the lowest round in her fifteen appeances in the event.

US Womens 2021 R3

“I have been working extremely hard in my off weeks that I do get, I've been working very hard, so it's good to see the hard work paying off,”said Thompson, an 11-time winner on the LPGA. “But I have one more day ahead so just going to take it one shot at a time, it's going to be a long day and see where it goes.”

Thompson started her round four strokes behind leader Yuka Saso and made five birdies to move up the leaderboard.

“Just to be out here is a blessing, honestly. And just everything good and then all the fans and everything, so really just embracing all of that,”said Thompson. “Covid didn't help with no fans out here, but I just, I love playing in front of people and just seeing those little kids and hearing the chants, it just, it brings me happiness and a reason to play golf again.”

Saso shot and even-par 71, closing with a bogey at the 18th to drop back into second place at 6-under. A win on Sunday would grant the 19-year-old Filipino player immediate LPGA Tour membership.

US Womens 2021 R3

“I think I've learned so much last year and this year,”said Saso.“I played in so many good tournaments and I've been having a great chance playing with the great players, seeing them play, being so patient, trusting on what they do, I think I've learned from that, so I think I'm just going to stay patient and trust the process.”

US Womens 2021 R3

Megha Ganne shot a 1-over 72 to tie for third place alongside 2018 U.S. Women’s Open champion Jeongeun Lee6 at 3-under.

“It was really mentally a grind out there and I've never had to just perform from such bad lies and situations hole after hole and still believe that I was going to do it again on the next hole,”said Ganne.“So it was a lot, but I'm confident in how I'm playing.”
