Richard Bland & Russell Henley tied for lead at 4-under

Richard Bland, playing in only his fourth major and 23 years since his first, shot seven birdies and three bogeys for a 4-under 67 to take a share of the lead at 5-under.

Russell Henley followed up his opening round 67 with a 70, firing two birdies and a bogey, to join him.

One shot behind the leaders are Louis Oosthuizen (71) and Matthew Wolff (68).

Tied alongside them is Matthew Wolff (68), who took a two month breal following a disappointing start to the year and missed the PGA Championship.

“It’s awesome that I came out here and played well, but I think more importantly, I’m just getting closer to being more comfortable and being happy and enjoying it,” said Wolff. “I feel like I’ve done a very good job of enjoying it, but I’ve still got a long way to go to keep a level head. Like I said, I’ll probably be working on the same thing that I’m working on now for the rest of my career.”

Jon Rahm shot three birdies and two bogeys to close with a 70 and stay in a tie for fifth place at 3-under.

Brooks Koepka (73) and Bryson DeChambeau (69) are T13 at even par.

Phil Mickelson improved on his opening 75 with a 69 on Friday and is T30 at 2-over.

Rory McIlroy, who missed the cut at both the Masters and the PGA Championship, shot a 73 to reach the weekend at 1-over alongside Dustin Johnson who likewise shot a 73.

Viktor Hovland withdrew from the tournament after injuring his eye during his pre-round warmup.
