Russell Henley and Louis Oosthuizen are tied for the lead at 4-under in the fog-delayed and windy U.S. Open with Oosthuizen yet to finish his round when play was suspended due to darkness.

“If it's blowing like this the whole week, it's just going to be a hard week. That's kind of what you want in a U.S. Open, though, right?” said Henley.

35 other player were also still on the course and will resume their rounds on Friday morning.

Brooks Koepka is T5 at 2-under and not entirely satisfied with his round.

“Not the best. But I'll definitely take it.”

His opening 69 is his sixth consecutive round in the 60s in a major.

“I've just got a good game plan, focused, I know what I'm doing, and I don't try to do anything I can't,” said Koepka. “It's just all about discipline in a U.S. Open. That's I guess the gist of it.”

Rahm is tied alongside Koepka and four other players in fifth place with a hole to play.

“Any time in a U.S. Open you're under par it's a great start and today was just that,” said Rahm.

Rory McIlroy closed with a 70 after firing four birdies and three bogeys to tie for 11th.

World number 1 Dustin Johnson managed just one birdie and one bogey to close with a 71.

Bryson Dechambeau is T61 with a 73 after salvaging his round and playing the final five holes in 2-under.

PGA champion Phil Mickelson openened with a disappointing 75 after producing five bogeys and a single birdie.

“Look, it's part of this tournament, and I was able to go without any doubles. I just didn't make enough birdies to offset it,” said Mickelson.
